United Front for a Workers Party

Linking up with Indiana

Workers and socialists just launched the Socialist Party of Indiana. They are running independent socialist candidates for Secretary of State and the State House, with an ambitious goal to gain statewide ballot access by collecting over 30,000 valid ballot signatures.

Indiana’s Republican governor is the third least-popular governor in the country. Both parties have historically low approval ratings. The Indiana Democratic Party, with a 25 percent approval rating, is even less popular than the Republicans. That’s almost as unpopular as the Congressional Democrats. And there is widespread anger about the cost of utilities, gas, food, healthcare, and housing.

There is a historic opening and a desperate need for a new party. That’s why members of United Front for a Workers Party voted to send four of our members to Indiana for a week to build the Socialist Party of Indiana. We have a goal of collecting at least 500 signatures and helping organize socialists in and around Indianapolis.

We need to take the momentum from this historic launch, which has already drawn over 120 volunteers, into a serious threat to the Democrats and Republicans. DSA, which has over 100k members nationwide, should send full time organizers to help collect signatures. Unions should also be building the party. This won’t happen on its own — workers need to get organized to break the unions and the socialist movement away from the Democratic Party.

We need a breakthrough. A strong socialist party in Indiana would help lay the basis for a workers’ party in Washington state and nationwide.

To help build the Socialist Party of Indiana and fight for independent socialist politics, we need to raise $2000 to fund our members’ travel, campaign materials, and lodging. Contribute $100, $30, $10, or even $1 to help support this fight.
